Twin Triumphs Available at Volvo New Jersey Dealers – the XC60 and V60

That’s right. Both the XC60 and V60 have recently been lauded by industry experts and top media sources as being the best in their respective segments. Even better news is the fact that both models are available for sale from your New Jersey Volvo dealers, with an abundance of options for you to consider. Depending on your daily driving needs, number of passengers you usually travel with, or your performance preferences, you’ll be able to choose one over the other; however, we recommend test driving them both…just for the fun of it.

The latest accolades and recognition from media outlets came from the Northwest Automotive Press Association’s Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year Competition, held in Shelton, Washingto between April 13-14.

Since we still have at least another month of summer to enjoy, it’s an ideal opportunity to check out these outdoor activity vehicles and create some road trip adventure memories.

Here’s what the critical automotive experts are saying

NWAPA Loves the XC60 and V60 – Conquer the Outdoors!

Starting with the XC60, specifically the T6 AWD trim level, NWAPA, which consists of representation from state and national new media like The Portland Tribune, The New York Times and MSNAutos.com, was awarded the best Premium Utility vehicle. The V60 Cross Country wagon earned the distinction of best Premium Compact Utility vehicle.

Volvo’s Response?

This recognition speaks to the Volvo brand’s engineering prowess, according to Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo Car USA’s President and CEO, who observed: “That the XC60 and V60 beat such tough competition is a testament to the incredible engineering that went into them.” He went on to speak about the brand in general, saying, ““Volvo has always been and always will be about people. Building strong, capable, safe cars is something Volvo never intends to stop doing.”

So, how were these winners determinedWhat’s the playing field and who are the competitors?

Understanding the Game and Ground Rules at “Mudfest”

To start with, the the NWAPA journalists took a look at 28 vehicles from 20 different brands, focusing on six categories, and ten evaluative criteria, including: comfort, design, efficiency and value, handling and capability, as well as on and off-road ride quality. According to the President of the NWAPA, Nik Miles, “After considerable evaluation, the automotive journalists of the Northwest clearly felt that both Volvo cars stood out as the best in their class. This is not the first win for Volvo at Mudfest and we expect them to return to defend their titles next year.”

As if one Volvo win wasn’t enough, the brand proved its durable, rugged capabilities not once, but twice, after being put to the test by the NWAPA automotive journalists. The Event Chair and Producer of Driving Sports TV, Ryan Douthit, was the first to admit, “When evaluating the vehicles, our members really put them through the ringer. The fact that Volvo won not one but two classes is really quite impressive.”

So, what’s driving these two Volvo models? If they’re both so similarly capable, what’s the difference between the two and how do you determine which is right for your next Volvo purchase?

The XC60 T6 AWD – What the NWAPA Experienced

Equipped with Volvo’s Drive-E engine, where power meets efficiency, the 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine generates a robust 305 horsepower, with EPA estimates at solidly competitive 27 mpg highway.

Standard safety tech is a given, considering the Volvo brand’s commitment to on-road safety for all its drivers and passengers. Advanced safety features include Electronic Stability Control, Whiplash Protection System, City Safe low speed collision avoidance features, all safely ensconced in a high-strength steel safety cage.

Performance and safety are more appreciated when emphasized by luxury touches like leather upholstery, a power sunshade, heated power exterior mirrors, and a panoramic sunroof. Priced at the starting MSRP of $43,350, the XC60 can also be enhanced by a variety of packages and individual add-on features, available at your Volvo New Jersey dealers.

The V60 Cross Country – Clear Control

Thanks to some enhancements over the standard V60, including extra ground clearance by more than two inches, which gives the Cross Country a total ground clearance of 7.9 inches,  and Hill Descent Control from the AWD configuration, the V60 Cross Country is where form meets function.

Popular among outdoor enthusiasts, this wagon features a five-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 250 horsepower. Part of the appeal for those consumers who like to camp and engage in outdoor activities, comes from the Cross Country’s ample cargo space, measured at 43.8 cubic feet, courtesy of the three individual folding rear seats.

The Cross Country variant of the standard V60 certainly allows for more diverse driving routes, thanks to AWD and Hill Descent Control; however the base S60, and its accompanying trims and options, is also worth a look from anyone interested in that old-school wagon style from a cutting edge automaker. Pricing for the Volvo S60 Cross Country generally centers around the $41,000 mark, depending on equipment.
