Volvo always wants to be ahead of the curve when it comes to features and innovation found on new cars. That's why when it finds a good idea, it runs with it, in hopes of making the product a reality. Recently, they hosted the Switch to Pure Volvo Pavilion Design Competition, in hopes of finding the next advancement in solar charging. Smythe Volvo is proud to say they certainly did, and it's quite impressive.

This pavilion is called Pure Tension, and it folds out to formed, rounded, and curved solar panel structure that covers a vehicle, and allows you to plug it in to get a charge. When it is finished, you have the convenience of folding it up and storing it away in the trunk. That is certainly innovative.

It was put together with the help of Synthesis Design and Architecture, and Buro Happold and Fabric Images who came up with the unique structure. The Pure Tension system will debut in September with the Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid in Rome, showcasing its functionality, and style to the rest of the world.

The automaker certainly hopes that it can be applied to other new Volvo models here in our Summit, NJ showroom down the line, and would also like to see Pure Tension applied in other areas, too. It should be interesting to track, and we're going to do just that right here on our blog.

In the meantime, we invite you to stop in to Smythe Volvo and take a closer look at our current models, which are packed with many safety and luxury features.
