On a freezing cold Sunday morning, Team Smythe Volvo emerged at the Run For The Red 5K in Millburn, NJ. We gathered to run and raise support for the American Red Cross. When we first agreed to be one of the sponsors of the event, it felt good to help such a worthy cause. However, when some of us were asked to run in the event, we were a little hesitant since we aren't in Olympian athlete shape. Then when we arrived at 9 AM in the Artic temperatures, we really questioned if we made the right decision to run. But the overwhelming positive vibes coming from the American Red Cross soon changed our minds. As we approached to pick up our racing bibs, there was upbeat music pumping through the air to fire you up. A Red Cross employee was on the mic thanking everyone for showing up and encouraging everyone in the upcoming race. Plenty of coffee, hot cocoa, bagels and fruit were available.

Team Smythe Volvo were ready to rock and roll. Led by the boundless enthusiasm of Smythe Volvo VP & Service Director Sean Flanagan, we headed for the starting line. Sean's son Mick, Sales & Leasing Consultant PJ Lee, his friend Despina and Digital Marketing Manager Patrick Nash rounded out the crew. Mick set a blistering pace and crossed the finish line first for Smythe Volvo. Sean was closely behind in second with Despina shortly to follow. Remember the people who were hesitant to run because they weren't in ideal shape? Yep, that would be PJ Lee and Patrick Nash who crossed the finish line nearly simultaneously in 4th and 5th.

While some of us were sucking wind the last mile, what a thrill it was to see our co-workers, their families and our families waiting at the finish line cheering for everyone. The icing on the cake that day was that we finished in 3rd Place in the Company Division and received a plaque for it. For some it may have been a cold and physically draining event but in the end all of us were thrilled to be a part of it. Team Smythe Volvo gave ample support to the American Red Cross and we all enjoyed our accomplishment in a festive environment. You can count on us to be back at Run For The Red and we encourage all of our customers to join us next year.
