Safety is a concept that is synonymous with the Volvo brand due to the Swedish automaker's incredible continued legacy of providing quality, reliable and safe vehicles to drivers in the Newark, NJ area and beyond. A testament to the safety of a vehicle is often determined by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which bestows the title of Top Safety Pick+ on vehicles that pass a series of rigorous crash tests.
Previously, the Volvo S60, XC60 and XC90 were hailed as Top Safety Pick+'s in 2013, but joining their ranks in 2014 is the Volvo S80. This S80 earned this title for its good performance in the small overlap front test, which replicates a collision when the front corner of the vehicle hits an object. This particular test has proven to be difficult for other vehicles in the in auto industry to pass, but the S80's sturdy design allowed for the sedan to literally tackle the challenge head on.
"Our safety cage features a robust design with a blend of different steel qualities. The new IIHS test program confirms the exceptional crashworthiness of this patented solution. Similar mixes of steel qualities are used in all current Volvo models, and the technology will be further enhanced in the upcoming models developed on our Scalable Product Architecture," explains Thomas Broberg, Senior Safety Advisor at Volvo Car Group. "The IIHS Top Safety Pick+ emphasizes the sustainability of our safety leadership."1
