Volvo Is More Than a Status Symbol
At Smythe Volvo, we know how important it is to have a reliable vehicle. In fact, reliability is one of the top things we are known for! But how does the Volvo brand stack up to competitors? We thought we would take a look at how Volvo compares to another luxury brand, BMW, when it comes to reliability. Let's get into it!
Volvo and Reliability
We believe Volvo is the superior brand, especially in terms of reliability. While we don't believe the BMW is completely unreliable, it simply does not compare to Volvo.
On average, Volvo cars do not require as many repairs as other car brands. When they do need repairs, they are not very costly. The brand is also well-known for its safety features. A car can't be considered reliable if it isn't safe, after all! Notable safety features include being the first to introduce the three-point seat belt, the seat belt reminder, and the side impact protection system. The brand continues to progress even further in safety with newer features, including roll-over protection and a blind spot information system. Volvo also stays consistent with its design, as they use the same structure underneath for most models.
BMW and Reliability
Where Volvo shines, the BMW lacks. BMW brand vehicles often need many costly repairs and maintenance. BMW is, at times, seen as a symbol of class, which is one big reason why people like the brand. While these cars are fun to drive, that comes at a cost.
The Driver Advisor conducted research on the reliability of BMW, using data from Repairpal, in which they concluded it should receive a ranking of 2.5 out of 5, putting it dead last on their list. This means BMWs have shown up in repair shops a lot more often than other brands. It also means their problems are typically worse than average and more expensive. In addition, The Driver Advisor found that, on average, a BMW owner can expect to pay around $968 to maintain each year.
Final Thoughts
Both the Volvo and BMW brands exist within a luxury space. They both, of course, have their own sets of pros and cons. But overall, we believe Volvo is the better choice, as the brand has more to back it up than simply being a status symbol, such as its reliability. This includes things like needing less repairs and more impressive safety features.
