May 2014- On Sunday May 4th, Smythe Volvo of Summit, NJ is proud to be a sponsor of the Madison Education Foundation 5K Race. The MEF has an amazing cause. They award educational enrichment grants to teachers and staff members in the Madison, NJ public schools. Through teacher grants, MEF funds great ideas that energize the academic and creative life of students but fall beyond the school district budget. Walk-ins are welcome tomorrow starting at 9 AM at Madison High School located at 170 Ridgedale Avenue in Madison, NJ. So if you live nearby in Chatham, Summit, South Orange, Livingston or Maplewood, head on down to the MEF 5K tomorrow and help out a worthy cause.

The event helps raise funds for Lions charitable projects. There will be live music, hors d'oeurves and a silent auction. So if you are in the surrounding areas of Madison, Chatham, Livingston, South Orange or Maplewood and are looking for a fun and fulfilling Saturday night, head on down to the Elks Lodge at 40 Maple St in Summit, NJ. Tickets are only $25.

 March 2014 - Smythe Volvo, the Volvo dealer for Summit and Essex Counties in New Jersey, is of a proud sponsor of the New Jersey American Red Cross, and we're excited about the announcement of the New Jersey RedCross's new free Flood App that is available for smart phones. This new New Jersey community app will give users access to real time information as it is happening. The app will offer warnings for both NOAA flood, and flash flood watches and warnings. Smythe Volvo knows how the recent flooding has affected Union County, NJ and surrounding cities such as Newark, Staten Island, Maplewood, South Orange, Millburn, Summit, and Linden. By supporting the Red Cross, they are able to help them offer life saving services and applications that will improve the quality of care and response time. Features of the app include a one touch "I'm ok" message that can be sent to loved ones allowing them to know you are safe, pre-loaded information on what to do in case of an emergency that is accessible even without mobile service, the location of Red Cross shelters, and real time recovery resources for returning home and clean-up. The Red Cross also offers apps for tornados, hurricanes, wildfires, first aid, earthquakes, and other life saving apps that can be downloaded via the Google Play and Apple stores. The Red Cross and Smythe Volvo want to remind the public that there is no substitute for being prepared, but these apps can help increase response and recovery time in case of an emergency or disaster.

 


JAN 2014-If you are looking for a fun, creative and educational weekend event for your family, look no further than Come Build Summit on Sunday January 26th. On that day at the Washington Elementary School at 507 Morris Avenue, 50 families will use roughly 60,000 LEGO pieces to recreate 50 historic and civic Summit buildings. Once the buildings are completed, they are placed in their appropriate place on a map of Summit laid out on the gymnasium floor. This event is sponsored by Smythe Volvo and Coldwell Banker of Summit, NJ. Smythe Volvo will have LEGO construction of not only their current location at 326 Morris Avenue in Summit but their future location of 36-42 River Road in Summit, NJ that will open the Spring of 2014. You must register in person at either Smythe Volvo (326 Morris Avenue in Summit NJ) or Coldwell Banker (401 Springfield Avenue in Summit). Registration is limited to the first 50 families that sign up.
 
 


In keeping with our Swedish heritage, Smythe Volvo is encouraging everyone to attend the 28th Annual Swedish Christmas Fair! It will be held Sunday November 24th at the Commonwealth Club located at 26 Northview Avenue in Upper Montclair, NJ from 10AM-4PM. There will be a great selection of Swedish crafts, foods and gifts. November 2013- Smythe Volvo is a sponsor of the Summit Area YMCA's Laugh Out Loud: An Evening Of Comic Relief Event. It takes place on Saturday November 16th from 8PM-11PM at the Grand Summit Hotel in Summit. The purpose of LOL is to raise money for their Annual Campaign Fund which provides needs-based financial assistance for various Summit YMCA programs.
